Units are shown only where the label gives a volume per dose for a vial, since pens and prefilled syringes aren’t measured with an insulin syringe. 100 units = 1 mL.

mg to units at your concentration

Units on an insulin syringe measure volume: 100 units is 1 mL. How much tirzepatide sits in a unit depends entirely on the strength of your vial, so the same mg can be very different numbers of units on two vials.

units = dose mg ÷ mg/mL × 100

The FDA has received reports of people drawing several times their intended amount after mixing up mL, mg and units with compounded GLP-1 products (FDA). Always work from the mg/mL printed on your own vial, and check the result with your pharmacist.

Reconstituting a tirzepatide vial

If your tirzepatide comes as a powder, it has to be mixed with the liquid your pharmacy specifies before you can measure it. The vial calculators below take the vial size, the water and your prescribed dose to units. For the steps, see how to reconstitute a vial.

Questions people ask

How do I convert tirzepatide units to mg?

Turn the units into mL, then multiply by your vial’s strength: mg = units ÷ 100 × mg/mL. Every unit is 0.01 mL, so at 10 mg/mL each unit holds 0.1 mg (100 mcg), and at 5 mg/mL each holds 0.05 mg. The strength is printed on your vial’s label; without it, units can’t be turned into mg.

How many units is a Zepbound single-dose vial?

Each Zepbound single-dose vial holds one dose in 0.5 mL, which is 50 units on a U-100 syringe; the multi-dose vial gives 0.6 mL (60 units) per dose. The label says to use a syringe that can measure 0.5 or 0.6 mL, such as a 1 mL syringe, and a new syringe and needle every time. Follow the instructions that come with your medicine.

Is compounded tirzepatide the same strength as Zepbound or Mounjaro?

Not necessarily. Compounded products aren’t FDA-approved, and their strength (mg/mL) depends on how they were made, so a number of units from one vial doesn’t carry over to another. Always enter the mg/mL printed on your own vial, and check anything that looks different with your pharmacist.

How do I reconstitute tirzepatide?

FDA-approved tirzepatide is never a powder; powder vials sold online as “research” products are unapproved drugs. If your tirzepatide is a powder, add the volume of liquid your pharmacy specifies, then use the vial calculator for your size: 10 mg, 30 mg or 60 mg. They show the strength each volume gives and the units for your prescribed dose. Steps: how to reconstitute a vial.

Can Peptinote tell me how many units to take?

No. Peptinote never suggests a dose. Enter the dose your prescriber gave you, and the calculator shows how to measure it: the units, the mL and where the line sits on your syringe, with every step of the math. If you aren’t sure what your dose is, ask your prescriber or pharmacist before drawing anything. How our calculator works.
