How many units is 7.5 mg of tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide in U-100 units at example strengths, where the third label step sits for Zepbound and Mounjaro, and how the labeled vials and pens measure it.

7.5 mg of tirzepatide has no fixed number of units: on a U-100 syringe it is 7.5 ÷ your vial’s mg/mL × 100, so a stronger vial means fewer units. Read the strength on your vial or pharmacy label and find its row below, or enter it in the tirzepatide units calculator.

Zepbound and Mounjaro pens and vials are labeled in mg and mL. Units come in only when your instructions are written for an insulin syringe.

7.5 mg in units at example strengths

These are example concentrations, not recommendations. Two rows match labeled products: 15 mg/mL is the 7.5 mg/0.5 mL single-dose pen and vial, and 12.5 mg/mL is the 30 mg/2.4 mL multi-dose vial.

StrengthVolumeUnits (U-100)
10 mg/mL0.75 mL75 units
12.5 mg/mL0.6 mL60 units
15 mg/mL0.5 mL50 units
20 mg/mL0.375 mL37.5 units
25 mg/mL0.3 mL30 units

The same amount is a different number of units at each strength, so check the mg/mL on your vial or pharmacy label. U-100 syringe: 100 units = 1 mL.

Hold each row up against your syringe. A 30-unit syringe holds 0.3 mL and a 50-unit syringe 0.5 mL, and at most of these strengths 7.5 mg is more than a 30-unit syringe holds. On the same vial, 7.5 mg is one and a half times the units of 5 mg, so your mark moves at this step: compare the 5 mg answer, the 2.5 mg answer and the 10 mg answer on your own strength.

Where 7.5 mg sits on the labels

7.5 mg is the third step of both FDA-label schedules, and on both it is a step rather than a stated maintenance dose:

  • Zepbound: after 5 mg, “The dosage may be increased in 2.5 mg increments, after at least 4 weeks on the current dose.” 7.5 mg is not listed among the label’s recommended maintenance dosages, which are 5, 10 or 15 mg for weight reduction and 10 or 15 mg for sleep apnea. The label says to “consider treatment response and tolerability when selecting the maintenance dosage” (Zepbound label).
  • Mounjaro: “If additional glycemic control is needed, increase the dosage in 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks on the current dose.” The label names no fixed maintenance doses (Mounjaro label).

That is also how the main obesity trial used it. SURMOUNT-1 randomized 2,539 adults to tirzepatide 5 mg, 10 mg or 15 mg, or placebo, for 72 weeks, “including a 20-week dose-escalation period” (SURMOUNT-1). 7.5 mg was a step on the way to 10 or 15 mg, not a group of its own, so the trial reports no long-term figure for 7.5 mg.

None of this is a plan for you. Follow your prescriber: they decide your dose and when it changes.

How the labeled products hold 7.5 mg

Multi-dose vial30 mg/2.4 mL (12.5 mg/mL), four 7.5 mg doses of 0.6 mLDraw to the 0.6 mL line
KwikPen30 mg/2.4 mL, four fixed 7.5 mg dosesTurn the dose knob until it stops

A multi-dose vial marked 30 mg/2.4 mL is a ready-to-use liquid holding four weekly 7.5 mg doses. It is not a 30 mg powder vial: every FDA-approved tirzepatide product is a solution, and no label mentions adding bacteriostatic water. If your 30 mg vial is a powder, it is compounded or unapproved, and the tirzepatide 30 mg reconstitution calculator shows what each volume of water makes.

The labeled multi-dose vial also has a hard stop. Both labels say to throw it away “after a total of 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or after taking 4 weekly doses, even if there is medicine left in it” (Zepbound label; Mounjaro label). For compounded multi-dose vials, the FDA says to discard the vial within 28 days after first use, “even if instructions from the compounder say the medication can be used for longer” (FDA).

Questions people ask

How many units of tirzepatide is 7.5 mg?

7.5 divided by your vial’s mg/mL, times 100. Read your strength’s row in the table above, or let the calculator do it and flag a syringe that’s too small.

How many units of Zepbound is 7.5 mg?

Zepbound doesn’t use units. Its label gives 7.5 mg as one 0.5 mL single-dose pen or vial, or 0.6 mL from the 30 mg/2.4 mL multi-dose vial measured on a 1 mL syringe, and the KwikPen dials a fixed dose (Zepbound label).

How many units of compounded tirzepatide is 7.5 mg?

Whatever your vial’s strength makes it, which is why the mg/mL on your label matters more than any chart. The FDA does not review compounded versions for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed (FDA). If your instructions give units but no strength, ask the pharmacy. See tirzepatide’s regulatory status.

Is the 30 mg/2.4 mL vial four doses or one?

Four. Each multi-dose vial or KwikPen “contains 2.4 mL of solution, which provides 4 doses” of 0.6 mL, so the 30 mg vial is four 7.5 mg doses (Zepbound label).
